From one-night-stand to new boss...

Ambitious management consultant Ellen Kennedy is going places. But when last year’s one-night-stand shows up in her office as her new manager, it threatens everything she’s worked so hard for. Even worse, she’s not quite sure that one night was enough.

Alex Broadhurst has private reasons for moving to Melbourne, and he has no intention of sharing them with anyone, including the woman he never forgot. But business and pleasure can’t mix, not ever, no matter the temptation.

Workplace romances always end in disaster, so Ellen and Alex strike a deal: one night in the past won’t affect their present or influence their future. But sometimes even the best deals are made to be broken...

My Review:

When I read the book description of ‘Deal Breaker’ a view weeks ago, I knew this was a book I wanted to read. It just sounded like a perfect romantic read.

In ‘Deal Breaker’ we meet Ellen Kennedy, an ambitious young woman who really wants to make it in her line of work. Ellen worked really hard to get where she is now, so when her new boss happens to be the guy she had a hot one night stand with months ago, she is in complete shock. Understandable! I really enjoyed reading about Ellen. She was fun, and I loved how ambitious she was. She wasn’t a woman to mess with, and she stood up for what she believed in.

The other main character was Alex Broadhurst. A handsome guy with a complicated personal life, and who worked hard to where he is now. Alex was an interesting guy to get to know. He was mysterious, charming and hard working. The chemistry between Ellen and Alex was especially in the beginning addicting to read about. I loved how they grew closer and it was definitely fun to read about.

Unfortunately, this story became less interesting half way through. The whole personal stuff in Alex life was just weird. I couldn’t connect to that part of the story at all. Even as a nurse, I just didn’t get it. I can’t really explain more without spoiling it, but trust me.. I was weird.
And I felt like the exciting stuff between the romance of Ellen and Alex happened in the middle of the book. After that the story just became too slow for me. And I lost interest.

What I did enjoy was the whole old friends of Ellen bit. I loved how these four girls grew up together and always stayed close. Although this wasn’t the main subject of the book, I really enjoyed that part and would have loved to read more about that friendship.

Overall I think this book had a lot of promise, but was just a little disappointing in the end.

About the Author:

Marnie grew up in country NSW but now lives in a lovely leafy suburb of Melbourne with her husband and two gorgeous daughters. Apart from a deep and abiding love of all things romance, she has a wide array of embarrassing and/or unusual passions including playing Bridge, growing succulents, visiting deserts and getting down on the Zumba floor. No points for guessing which passion is the embarrassing one.
